HAVE I PUT YOU OFF?

I sincerely hope not. But in the words of Mandy Aftel:

“There's very little truth in the perfume industry, and luxury is being able to tell the truth."

I'm lucky enough to be in a position where I can share the truth about this industry, and I hope this series of posts have opened your eyes. I asked Indie perfumer Vincent Médran-Navarrete from Reminiscent Parfums to share his advice for budding perfumers.

"Have a strong concept that stands out because even the niche market is getting crowded. There is no point launching more perfumes if it brings nothing new to what is already out there."

There are almost 2000 perfume launches every year, so it's a saturated market and you need to stand out if you want your business to survive. But survive you will, if you take all my points on board.

Remember, where you end up might be a long way from what you initially expected. But this fragrant road is full of possibilities if you just open your mind, be authentic, stay creative, and don’t let the passion die.

"One day you will wake up and there won’t be any more time to do the things you’ve always wanted. DO IT NOW." - PAULO COELHO

"If it was easy, everyone would be doing it." But they're not. So remember those wise words, the next time you have a challenging day.

Passion brought you here. Let it be a fuel to ignite your soul on the days you feel defeated.

Keep an eye on your competitors, but don't let it be your focus. You need to run your own race as hard as you can. Don't be tempted to copy them, but outdo them. Whatever they do, do it differently and do it better.

Your customer is everything. Focus on them, listen to them, engage them, and make them a part of your journey. And if you feel completely stuck, I'm here to help. I offer one-on-one consultations for entrepreneurs and those just starting out on their own fragrant journey.

Whatever you do, do it with love and perfume!

Fragrantly yours,

Melanie Jane

P.S. Don't expect overnight success unless you're a Kardashian or have millions of followers. You need to build trust with your audience.

There are three main reasons people won't buy from you:

They can't afford it.

They don't want it.

They don't trust you.

The third one is the only one you should concentrate on. The other two may never be your customer.
