#21 ADAPT OR DIE
Okay, die is a bit of a strong word. You won't actually die, but your business might if you're not able to adapt to changing times and circumstances. In 2020 and 2021, the world changed forever. People had to take their businesses and put them online. Businesses that previously seemed unlikely to be successful online, thrived. The owners found a way, and they did it. They had no choice. It was that or close.
Companies and people adapted, creating successful business models out of something they never would have considered otherwise.
Not everyone did, some things are impossible to have online. Like events for instance. They quickly became a thing of the past. But I know a very entrepreneurial lady who provided entertainment for brand launches and events, and she pivoted swiftly. She had to.
What did she do? She put together entertainment and activity packs for children. Children who were stuck at home, with their equally bored (and frustrated) parents. These bags, filled with crafting goodies, were so successful she sold out every time she made a new batch!
I had to adapt when I got fed-up with people copying my products, so I taught people how to make them. But not everyone who wanted to learn was in Dubai, so again I adapted and created an online learning academy so students could take part around the world. Be like a chameleon, and adapt to your environment.
It is not the most intellectual of the species that survives; it is not the strongest that survives; but the species that survives is the one that is able to adapt to and to adjust best to the changing environment in which it finds itself - Leon Megginson
What you do now may not be the thing you end up doing. Open your mind to that, and when that day comes, you’ll be ready.
